October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month (Cyber Month), reminding us of the importance of data security and transparency in our digital interactions and relationships. It is not only the time for all of us to reflect on the importance of (and our knowledge of) cybersecurity but also the time for the Berelevant Network Team to show appreciation.

This article sheds light on an overview of what data security is and how we handle your personal information. Moreover, we are going to introduce our annual event – “Cyber Month Deal”. While we maximize technological advancements, it is important to understand their limitations.

From a professional standpoint, data privacy, cybersecurity and data integrity are crucial topics for business entities. This includes educational institutions, all types of companies, non-profit organizations and charities, sole proprietors, and government agencies.

When relevant information isn’t always visible (easy to find) or up-to-date, the decision-making process can then be manipulated. Emotional spending is a term that describes a customer who purchases a product or service out of emotions. This type of spending often results in regret and mental distress that comes after receiving the bill. Learning data security and data integrity helps customers to understand the service delivery process and information sharing.

In the modern day, to honour green practices, most organizations have gradually transitioned from paper data storage to electronic data storage. Many larger organizations (with hundreds or thousands of employees) use “Customer Relationship Management” (CRM) to manage their customers’ data. The purpose of adopting a CRM tool, in simple terms, is to standardize the communication process internally and externally. This CRM tool is usually managed by a third party if it is not developed in-house, meaning customer’s data is also shared with them.

Are you aware your data may be collected right after your visit?

In fact, many websites do not have proper “cookie consent banners”. Some sites do not have the “reject all” option at all. That is, when a website owner chooses not to have an appropriate setup for a cookie consent banner, the site’s (unclear) terms are enforced.

This isn’t the case with us. You will see a cookie consent banner after visiting our page for the first time, and you will have the option to “revoke” your choice. See the video below:

As per the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), a cookie consent banner and the “reject all” option are mandatory on a website. A legitimate business highlights the importance of customer data privacy. Because building trust is the foundation of forming a healthy and long-lasting relationship.

Wondering why you keep seeing “advertisements” that somehow speak to your everyday needs or desires? This happens when you do not pay attention to your online activity involving data and information sharing. Important issues, like data security and cybersecurity, are often left undiscussed by businesses. Because many providers (individuals or organizations) do not fully comply with the rules.

Although the purpose of using a cookie is to enhance user experience, a cookie can track what interests a user (like how many pages a user has visited) and how long a user stays on each page. It is particularly useful information for businesses to strategize tailored marketing plans.

In terms of advertisements, many blogs and membership websites generate revenue through paid subscription fees and advertisements. By sharing information with third-party advertisers, the site owners earn a percentage off their posts. Targeted advertising is one of the chief reasons why you may be convinced to purchase an item you do not need.
